SVP SICK MASS & ANOINTING OF THE SICK

The SVP warmly invites parishioners to a special Sick Mass and Anointing of the Sick at St. Mary & St. Philip Neri RC Church on Saturday 24th October at 1.30pm, celebrated by Fr. Brady. Please join us in prayer for the sick, housebound and bereaved, followed by refreshments in the Atrium courtesy of the Union of Catholic Mothers. All are welcome.

NOVEMBER DEAD

Throughout the month of November, we remember our beloved relatives and friends who have died throughout our lives and who we wish to pray for during the month of the Holy Souls. Envelopes are now available in the Atrium for the names (or list of names) of those we have loved. For example: parents, relatives, priests etc. Please hand envelopes to Fr. Brady or the Parish Office.

CHRISTMAS FAIR

The Christmas Fair will be 5th December from 11am – 1pm. We are looking for donations of Bottles, Gifts, Fancy Goods, Chocolate and Tombola Goods. Wrapped and unwrapped items for the £1 parcels, children, ladies and gents. Also, Raffle Prizes for the ‘Bi Raffle’ and ‘Pre Loved teddies and soft toys.’ These can be left in the Parish Office.

VOLUNTEER REMINDER

A polite reminder that all new volunteers are required to complete the appropriate volunteer form before undertaking any new role. This helps us to ensure that everyone is properly registered and that our parish safeguarding procedures are followed. Please speak to Clair Bogdany or email the parish office. Thank you to all our volunteers for your continued support, commitment and generosity. Your help is much appreciated.

OFFICE HOURS

Wednesday & Friday 9am – 3pm

SICK AND RETIRED CLERGY
APPEAL

Our diocesan Sick and Retired Clergy Fund ensures our retired priests can begin the next chapter of their vocation with confidence, knowing the Church they have served will continue to accompany them as they age. Every gift to the fund helps to provide the care, dignity and practical support our priests deserve after years of dedicated service. More information is available in the Atrium with QR Code and other ways you can make your donation.

HELP END CHILD POVERTY IN OUR PARISHES

Child poverty is increasing in our area, with latest statistics from the government showing almost one in three children are growing up in poverty. Our diocesan charity Caritas Salford supports local families facing crisis and is asking us to join them in taking action to help. There are lots of different ways we can get involved. Visit > to find out more.

Kings Church Centre, The Mill, Bury New Road, BL3 6QE

SAFEGUARDING REMINDER

For the safety and wellbeing of all our children, we kindly ask that parents and carers accompany their child if they need to leave Mass for any reason (for example to use the toilet). Please remember that the Church doors remain open during Mass, and therefore children should not leave the building unaccompanied. Thank you.

STAY WITH US, LORD, ON OUR JOURNEY

THIS WEEK’S GOSPEL

Jesus’ understanding of the sovereignty of God brought him violent opposition from some of the Jewish leaders.

Were they corrupt, or just closed to any new way of thinking, so closed that they could not see that Jesus was the promised Messiah?

Anyway, Jesus used this story about the tenants of a vineyard to show that the religious authorities were not leading the people as they should.

Everyone would immediately understand the image of the vineyard.

The prophet Isaiah had used this image in a well-known poem eight centuries earlier to show that the vineyard of Israel refused to yield a good harvest to God, whatever care God lavished on it.

God expected fairness of judgment from the people and all he found was a shriek of agony (the same word is used in Hebrew for ‘fair judgment’ and for ‘shriek’ apart from one letter).

What does this mean for us?

Not that we have to follow every new idea.

But it does mean that we must be open to the idea that we may be wrong, that our service of the Lord may be faulty, that people we find tiresome or unacceptable may have more good in them than we credited.

God’s ways are not our ways. Life may not be mapped out how we think, so we need to watch out for the bend in the road.

BAPTISMS Please see Fr. Brady after Mass if you would like to have your child baptised, where all enquiries will be dealt with in person. Fr Brady much prefers this rather than an email. Thank you. A baptismal certificate for one of the parents must be provided as evidence of baptism in a Roman Catholic Church. Fr. Brady is available after weekend Mass on Saturday at 5.30pm, Sunday at 9.00am or 10.30am, all of which fulfil the Sunday obligation. All Catholics are OBLIGED to celebrate Mass EVERY Sunday.

BAPTISM CERTIFICATE COPIES REQUESTS For those requesting copies of baptism certificate the office can be contacted initially and the certificate can be collected at any of the weekend Masses. This is also to encourage people to come to Mass.

SICK AND HOUSEBOUND If you know of anybody who would like Fr Brady to visit, could you please give him their name and address with postcode and a contact telephone number. Thank you.

MASS INTENTIONS, OUR LADY’S LAMP AND THE SANCTUARY LAMP  The practice of requesting a Mass to be offered for loved ones, living or deceased, is a beautiful and wonderful part of our Catholic Tradition. Continuing this long-standing practice, you can remember someone who has died recently or many years ago. The Mass can also make beautiful gifts for any special occasion: birthdays, anniversaries, in thanksgiving for a prayer answered etc. You can offer an intention for anybody who is struggling with a serious illness or other difficulties of life. There are Mass Intention Envelopes provided on the table in the Atrium. (Please ensure that you have the express consent of the sick or housebound person as the bulletin is posted on the parish website, therefore making that information available to the public at large. Please provide a contact number with Mass Intentions so that any discrepancies can be resolved. Our Lady’s Lamp and Sanctuary Lamp are £5.00 and burn for seven days. Please place any intentions in an envelope with your donation and give to Father Brady or place in the Mass offering Box in the Atrium. All newsletter items must be sent in by Thursday morning.
